“Should Christian celibates wear a ring or a similar visible token to show their commitment?” questions one reader of Undividedblog.
Here are a few comments from some Christian celibates (any added comments gratefully received).

Carole
A reason for … “a reminder to me that I belong to Jesus as a celibate. It also helps to show I am unavailable in the romantic sphere.” Carole.
A reason for … “it helps the opposite sex to know that you are ‘spoken for’.” Paul.
A reason for … “a daily reminder of the personal relationship between you and God and your commitment to that (and His commitment to you) – an outward sign sealing the gift.” Hilary.
A reason against … “in this day and age people wear rings for any or no reason and on any finger …. so, as an outward testimony, it probably has little meaning.” Hilary again.
A reason for …. a reason against …. “a sacramental-visible signs of invisible grace – that’s a reason for or against depending on your theology!” Wilf
And finally … “an individual choice with no compulsion – for some it is a reminder of their commitment, for others it isn’t necessary as it is their lives that matter.” Huw.

I wear a ring because it reminds me that I belong to God. I had a ring and it got lost and I was given an even nicer one by a friend. It’s got stars on it. It is extra special because of the gift from my friend – a gift from God.

I wear a sliver wedding ring making it clear for every one to see that I have decided to renounce any possible 2nd time girlfriend or even a wife after my 1st marriage came to a end and have embraced the celibate gift so that I can serve my church hold and God a lot more as a single dad & exs husband now for good – Amen.
